Collège (Lower Secondary)

Collège marks pupils’ entry into secondary education. It is organised into four year groups, from sixième (6ème, Year 7) to troisième (3ème, Year 10), and structured into teaching cycles.

A pivotal stage in pupils’ schooling, the 6ème year allows them to consolidate their learning so that they can look ahead with confidence to the rest of their time at collège. It is with this aim that the organisation of teaching in 6ème classes at collège was revised from the start of the 2023 school year.

In keeping with the priority given to primary education, the organisation of teaching in 6ème classes at collège has been modified from the start of the 2023 school year in order to strengthen pupils’ mastery of fundamental knowledge, deepen their understanding and enable them to work independently.

One hour per week of support or enrichment in mathematics or French has been introduced. It aims exclusively to strengthen knowledge and skills in mathematics or French.

Schooling at collège begins with the final year of cycle 3, the consolidation cycle. This cycle therefore spans both primary school and collège.

Cycle 4, the deepening cycle, covers the 5ème, 4ème and 3ème years. During this cycle, pupils develop their knowledge and skills in the various subjects while preparing for the continuation of their education and their future active participation in the development of society.

In 6ème, pupils continue with trilingual teaching (French, English, Arabic). From 5ème onwards, they begin learning Spanish.

The subject curricula are aligned with the common core of knowledge, skills and culture and with the educational pathways (Citizenship Pathway, Arts and Cultural Education Pathway, Future Pathway and Health Pathway).
