AFLEC’s Values

HUMANISM AND RESPECT

The fundamental value that drives AFLEC is respect for the individual as a human being, whatever their origins, culture, religion or philosophy. In French, this is summed up by the word Laïcité (secularism), meaning that the education provided in its schools must not favour, promote or privilege any ethnic group, culture, religion or philosophy. The only values upheld are those that defend humanism and respect for human rights, for boys and girls alike. Sectarianism of any kind has no place there.

MULTICULTURALISM AND INTERNATIONAL OUTLOOK

In keeping with this spirit, AFLEC is part of a movement of openness to the world as the young people entrusted to it will come to know it: a world made up of many cultures and of a multitude of human relationships.

The motto “three cultures, three languages” sums up this aspiration well

  • · French, a language of culture and of instruction,
  • · English, a language of culture and of international communication, which is also a language of instruction,
  • · The language of the country in which pupils are studying, notably Arabic, a language of great culture spoken by hundreds of millions of people.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

AFLEC believes that the education it provides to its pupils must result in the development of an adult who possesses skills based, among other things, on:

  • – Broad and precise knowledge, through French teaching methods built on coherence and ambition from the earliest classes, then on rigour and dialogue once the pupil reaches sufficient maturity.
  • – Mastery of information and communication techniques: traditional media (reading, research) and new information and communication technologies,
  • – Through the practice of modern languages (see above),
  • – An ideal of life founded on respect for oneself and for others, and on a sense of duty,
  • – Through the daily respect for AFLEC’s values shown by the educational team,
  • – Through an ongoing commitment to helping our pupils better understand the world around us and to constantly improve their personal abilities.
